Professor Won Kim, A World-Renowned Scholar
Professor Kim graduated from MIT and has been a leading scholar in the field of database.
He has designed software education programs for more than 5,000 software engineers at Samsung Electronics for 1.5 years.
The professor also selected 20 top-notch software developers in Samsung Electronics and trained them for one year to help them become world-class designers.
With the goal of totally overhauling university software education in Korea, Gachon University President Lee Gilyeo recruited Professor Kim in 2010 as an Endowed Chair Professor and IT Vice President to establish the Department of Software.
Although the first class of students had CSAT levels of 2 or 3, the percentage of the first graduates landing a job at major
corporations or getting into a graduate school and their overall employment rate were on par with that of top-five university graduates,
thanks to their outstanding education and training. The curriculum and department operation model
was designed by Professor Kim, who oversees and supervises students of all grades.
